Parktone students were recently given a unique opportunity to take part in engaging writing workshops through the Young Writers’ Program which provided enriching and memorable learning experiences.
Award-winning author Claire Saxby led the workshops, bringing her expertise and passion for storytelling into the classroom. Known for her acclaimed children’s books, Claire inspired students with her deep connection to the natural world and her creative writing process.
Across two days, Year 3–6 students explored a range of practical writing strategies, including generating ideas, structuring stories, developing character challenges, and refining their writing through editing techniques. These hands-on activities encouraged students to think like authors and build confidence in their own storytelling.
A standout highlight was the exclusive readings of Claire’s upcoming books. Year 3 and 4 students were the first in the world to hear Storm before its release, while older students enjoyed a preview of Through the Darkening Sky. These special moments made the experience even more exciting and memorable.
The workshops have left students feeling inspired and motivated, further strengthening their skills and enthusiasm for writing.
